Olmert denies Right of Return

Of course Olmert denies Palestinians the right of return. What's one more broken international law to the list? Let’s see here. Continued illegal occupation of territories seized in during 1967 war…check. Use of excessive force in occupied territories…check. Constructing a "security fence" on Palestinian territory…check. Deliberately targeting civilians in Lebanoncheck. And the list goes on.

I think the right of return is one of the most dividing issues in the Middle East and certainly ensures the continuation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

While I respect and support your belief that preventing Palestinians from returning to their prior homes in what is now the Jewish state of Israel is undemocratic, I do understand the importance to the Israelis of having a majority Jewish state.

Also, because of the nature of the conflict, it could be Israeli suicide to permit the free return of Palestinians into Israel because of the possible internal threat to national security.

It seems that if even Likud, a moderately progressive political party, is unwilling to compromise on the right of return, then it is not something Israelis will compromise in the near future.

Still, surely not an easy situation and there doesn't seem to a right answer to all involved...
